New Fat City Records website is up / Thank you

Hi guys,

So I am in the middle of writing a massive assignment for my MA course that is due on Tuesday (5th June) at 3 pm. But my head & heart & spirit is filled with too many distracting things and I can’t focus.

On Friday 1st June we finally launched the new Fat City Records website.

I am a crazy pedantic perfectionist, and due to that, I took the decision on launch day to put some sections of the site on hold because I didn’t want half finished things to go up on the new website since I only want you guys to see the best possible things we can offer.

Because of that, there are a few things that are missing (like the blog, download section, special offers etc) but they will be added in due time, along with 1000s of more titles and records (we had over 25,000 titles to go through in total, half of which never made it on to the old website, so bare with us please, it will all show up on the site soon enough).

Overall, I am so happy and thankful for all the kind words and support you have shown me, my fantastic team and this website re-launch.

The FCR re-launch party at Floripa was banging and beyond anything I ever could have imagined.

Due to stress my feet and legs decided to swell up during the day, to the point where I no longer could fit them into my shoes. By the end of the day I desperately tried to make the swelling go down by putting my feet in a bucket of cold water. It didnt help and simply standing up was incredibly painful due to the blisters that had developed around both my heels.

If I am honest, I’m not 100% sure how, bit I rode through the pain all night with the magical help of great music, amazing friends and lots of white wine.

Sadly we couldn’t stream the party on Mixlr due to very bad internet connection at the venue and I am not sure if we were able to record any of the sets. But regardless, I have to say a million and one thank you’s to the DJs: TomEChris Read, Hint and Jazzman Gerald, who made the night so special and memorable. As well as Dan (our intern) who tried to sort out the streaming issues (he even ran home to get a spare laptop) and who helped organise the party in general.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all my friends who came down to support me and the launch – words are not enough to describe how much your presence was appreciated. You helped me keep a sane head for most of the night (apart from the last bit when the stress/pain/happiness/millions of other emotions got to me & I started crying) I will forever cherish and be thankful for your kind & encouraging words and support. It honestly meant so much to see your smiling faces and seeing you have a good time. I wish I could bottle up that incredible feeling and save it forever. I have so much love for you all…

Last but not least, a very special thank you to all of you who have been emailing me and messaging me all kinds of wonderful praise and encouragement both before and after the launch. I know I owe you replies and as soon as this MA coursework has been handed in, I will go through each and every one and take the time they all deserve to reply.

I know it sounds stupid, but I never in my life expected to be able to do what I did on Friday. I know this new site is just the beginning of something hopefully much bigger and better, but words cannot express how lucky and grateful I feel about the fact that somebody like Jazzman had enough faith and trust in me to let me do what I thought was best for Fat City.

Music is my life, it always has been and I wouldn’t be me without it.

I know I wasn’t born or raised in the UK, but regardless of that, I still have so much respect for the musical heritage that Fat City has on the independent UK music scene and all I want is to make sure that that heritage and it’s great musical values don’t get lost or wither away, but instead that they are preserved, honoured and helped to move forward.

It is interesting times for music and the music industry for many many many reasons, and I am fully aware of the fact that money is pretty damn tight on both business and consumer sides.

But having said that, I am determined to make this work, one way or another, because I care too much about this business and the thousands of people who’s lives it has influenced in different ways since it opened it’s door in Manchester 1993.

So once again, thank you to all of you who came down and played records, danced, laughed and generally made the FCR launch party one helluva night!

To all of you who helped me and supported me throughout the entire process of launching the new website – it was a crazy ride and I know I couldn’t have done it without you keeping me sane.

To all of you who believed in me and had faith in me when I didn’t, and who helped me get back on track when I lost my way.

To all of you who read and commented on my blog posts and who emailed me and tweeted me and messaged me and who just generally filled and still continue to full my life with positivity and light.

I am forever thankful.

Much love,

Orsi xxx
