As promised, I am back with a fresh selection of great tunes, just in time to lay down the soundtrack for the coming week (which hopefully will be as sunny as previous one). The 4th edition is a nice blend of soulful sounds, funky beats and warm harmonies. It includes Speech Debelle’s latest single “The Key”, two amazing tracks from Mayer Hawthorne and The County (my latest obsession “Maybe So, Maybe No” being one of them), and a mix I made of one of my favourite songs of all time, California Soul by Marlena Shaw, plus one of the best remixes I have heard of the same song (by Diplo if anybody is interested). I had some major technical difficulties making this podcast, not to mention the difficulties I had actually uploading it. However, it is now here, for all of you to enjoy. So turn up your speakers and press play, this little bad boy deserves a bit of extra volume.

Good evening! I just got home from a wondeful day with Jason. I am SO FULL, I think I have the itis… We went to the park to enjoy the sunshine. Sat and had some coffee, shared some gossip, had a little walk.
Then we went to Sainsburys to buy all the food we needed for dinner. Got home to Jason and the sun was still shining, so we decided to sit outside in his garden and have some more coffee, chocolate cheesecake, and a bit more gossip & sun.
After a little while it got a bit too chilly, so we went inside and watched some South Park & Heroes, had a bit of a giggle. Around 6:30pm my stomach was making weird noises so we decided it was time to start with the cooking. We made tuna steaks, boiled new potatoes, a creamy dill & orange zest sause, and a nice salad with rocket, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and peppers topped off with some balsamic vinegar, olive oil & tarragon. To this we enjoyed a nice glass of dry white wine.
When we finished stuffing our faces we went back upstairs so I could finish watching the last eposiode of Heroes. On our way out we bumped into Fatty, Jasons cat (I don’t actually remember his real name… but Jason always calls him Fatty). He is so cute, and I don’t really like cats!
All in all, an absolutely wonderful day! It felt so good to go outside and actually do something and see a friend. I feel like I haven’t done that in ages! One of the best days I have had for quite a while. Paid my rent as well, and was promised that they would FINALLY fix my wardrobe (after 6 months!!). So tomorrow I need to clean and empty it out so they can fit in the rail on Monday.
What did you guys get up to today? Much love!
Good morning! How are we feeling this Saturday? I have to admit that I am feeling rather marvelous! Apart from some things… but lets ignore them and focus on the fact that it is the weekend, we are having a beautiful day, and I have the biggest smile on my face.
I have been having really weird dreams lately. Two nights ago I dreamt about two of my bosses. I was sitting in one of their laps and we were watching cartoons on the telly. And then last night I had a very strange dream with Gavin and Gilles haha. That was also pretty fucked up, but it was nice seeing them.
Today I need to go and pay my rent, and I just got off the phone with Jason, who I was meant to cook dinner for this evening. We are meeting up by Finsbury Park in 2 hours to enjoy a nice afternoon in the sun. Im also working away on the podcast, although I noticed that the sunshine is influencing what songs I’m choosing. I just looked at the tracklist and it is only songs that make me smile. Oh well, we shall see how it developes. I hope you have a wonderful day! Much love.
Evening! Sorry for the poor updates, but nothing is really happening in my life at the moment. At least nothing exciting worth mentioning. Oh, apart from the lovely weather we have been having. Sunshine all the way baby! I have been working on the new podcast, should be up this weekend if it all goes to plan. Although I am a bit frustrated. First of all, I have been asked to speak on them, and I don’t know whether or not that is a good idea… I mean, I am good at speaking (as some of you might know haha) but the question is, would anybody willingly listen to my randomness? Second of all, I have gotten a few obsessions music wise, only problem is, I CAN’T BLOODY FIND THEM ANYWHERE! One song that I have been listening to on repeat is Mayer Hawthorne’s latest single (that has been played on both Benji B’s 1Xtra show & Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show) “Maybe So, Maybe No”. I have been going to his MySpace page to listen to the track, (which by the way has been on repeat for at least 2 hours every day this past week). I did find it on YouTube, but it has already been taken down due to copyright issues. Although the original from The New Holidays is good too. You can have a listen below (but it’s still not the same! I want the Mayer Hawthorne version so badly it hurts my soul!)
Another obsession (thanks to Mr. Peterson) this week has been Indigo Jam Unit, a Japanese jazz band. I have an LP from 2007 called “Demonstration”, but they have released an LP with only Common tracks, AND IT IS FUCKING AMAZING! I’ve tried buying that as well, but can only find it as a CD (I want it in mp3) on silly Japanese websites where I don’t understand the signs, on English-Japanese sites where it would cost me around 20 pounds plus shipping, OR it has been sold out/is out of stock. I feel like screaming! I did find some of the tracks on YouTube if you want to have a listen.
“Be” (from Common’s album “Be”)
“I Used To Love H.E.R.” (from Common’s album “Ressurection”)
“The Light” (from Common’s album “Like Water For Chocolate”)
If anybody can hook me up with either of these, or at least tell me where the hell I can get hold of them I would be forever grateful! It is a bit annoying having to go to MySpace or YouTube to be able to listen to the tracks, especially when I’m at work because it looks like I’m not doing any work. And also, I’d like to be able to listen to them when I’m not by my computer…
Ok, I think I have bored you enough now with my music problems. I should get on with selecting the tracks for the new podcast. Give me a shout if you want me to talk on the next one. I need to try out my crappy mic and check if it’s actually possible. Hope you have a nice Friday evening! Much love!
So I needed a day and a half to recover from the massiveness that was Saturday night. A BIG THANK YOU TO Q-TIP + MY LOVELY BROWNSWOOD FAMILY (PEGGY & SIMON FANTASTIC JOB!). I was working the guest list in the beginning of the night. Got a lot of abuse hahaha. Kind of put me in a weird mood. But then I went in to watch Q-Tips performance and I was completely blown away. Have a look:
That gave me goosebumps over my entire body and left me a bit speechless. The entire place was buzzing from start to finish. Everywhere I looked I could see hands in the air, people singing along, dancing, nodding their heads… I can’t really describe it with words, but when he started doing “Award Tour” the crowd went fucking MENTAL! I was dancing like I’ve never danced before!
To get the feel of the atmosphere, have a look at the video Lefto made from the balcony. LOOK AT THE CROWD! MASSIVE! Lefto also got some nice footage from the after party which was crazy! Warehouse basement, 700 people, absolutely mental!
Very nice to see Emily again! Haven’t seen her since I left Brownswood and I have missed her so much! Bumped into Si from Futuristica who I also havent seen for a while and it made me so happy. Adam, the tour manager of Breakestra who I met this summer at World Wide Festival also made it, and it felt nice to speak a bit of Swedish. I can’t believe he is arranging a show with Benji B in Gothenburg! Bumped into some Brownswood regulars which was nice as well, they are always so sweet and make me smile. All in all, an AMAZING night. Something I will tell my grandchildren about!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Tonight is the night! And, I am still so ill that I don’t know what to do with myself! I have been excited about this gig for months, MONTHS! I need to go and buy a bucket of make up to cover up this pathetic excuse for a face. My nose is destroyed from all the snot and tissue activity that has been going on for the past week. Its all red and soar… And I have black luggage (not bags but luggage) under my eyes. Not to mention that I have nothing to wear and the closest shops to where I live are chavtastic. Oh well, who cares? It is Q-Tip!! Ok, I need to make a move. I start in 4 hours. Have a great weekend! If you are coming down, I shall see you at the Roundhouse or at the after party. Either way, IT’S GONNA BE DOPE! Remind me to charge my camera!
Good evening! How are you guys tonight? I am exhausted. Not feeling 100% well yet but still went to work today where I got a lovely surprise. A laptop! FINALLY! It feels so good to be able to come home and use a mac. Since I spend 8 hours (if not more) of my day working on one, it feels kind of weird coming home and sitting by a pc. I keep getting the shortcuts wrong and it just doesn’t feel the same. I wanted to share some thoughts and various things that have been on my mind lately, but I am very tired and I have a headache. So instead of wasting your time, I am going to leave you with a funny video I came across, and save my Q-Tip excitement plus various other bits and pieces for tomorrow morning. It will be a hectic day with gym escapades, rent paying, make-up shopping, room cleaning, and of course, Q-tipping. Sweet dreams!
I am late for work and cold sweating. But I have realised that there is no point in feeling sorry for myself. Yes I have been ill, and I still am to some degree. However, the only person who can change things and make it better is myself, and not anybody else. Time to get a grip and grow some balls? I think so. Now I am going to have a quick shower, even though I took one last night, but I have been cold sweating all night and morning and do stink just a little, pack up my bag with all the flu drugs I have plus my vitamin C tablets (that has DEFEND! written on the package) and my other little fuzzy sparkling pills (that has REVITALISE! written on the package), put on some clothes and a happy smile, suck it up, and just deal with the fact that nothing truly worth having comes easily. Might not be the biggest secret in the world, but just thought I’d share. I hope you have a nice Friday. I will be back later with some exciting words about the Q-Tip show tomorrow, and various other bits and pieces that have been on my mind the past flu-infested days. Much love!
The worst thing about being lonely is being sick and lonely. Not having anybody to take care of you. To stroke your head. To make sure you’re tucked in properly. To make you a cup of tea and make sure you’re taking your flu medication. It was a weird day at work today. I felt like shit and almost started crying like 5 times. I even had to rush in to the toilets on one occasion because I could feel my eyes filling up with tears. Met Jason very briefly after work for a coffee. Was nice to see him. Was nice to get a hug… I miss hugs. I thought I would collapse on the bus home. Finally got in, off with all my clothes, into warm comfy ones, made a cup of tea, and now I am really tempted to just disappear under my duvet and not come out until the days are longer, the wind is warmer, and the trees are greener. It would be very nice to be able to disappear completely and pretend that I wasn’t here.
Good evening! How are you all? I’ve been very tired today. Went to Cargo last night to check out the Stones Throw show with Peanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorne, James Pants, Dam-Funk and so on. It was absolutely amazing! Although, I am not a big James Pants fan… However, I did enjoy it when he played the drums and Mayer Hawthorne did his thing. He looks like the biggest geek on this planet, and he was wearing a suit I think my grandfather has. BUT he was great live, behind the decks too and really nice to talk to. Although I personally think Peanut Butter Wolf stole the show, and I loved how they were showing the videos to the tunes he was playing, and how they matched everything he did on the turntables, so when he scratched, the images up on the screen did the same. I’ve been looking at old school hiphop stuff all day on youtube, it made me realise that I miss making music! Anway, Im not going to take up more of your time. Check out the video below, it will be worth those 10 minutes of your life. Much love!
